Llanthony Riding and Trekking, Wales

Your choice of horse riding in Wales

We can offer you two different types of riding: pony treks (half-day or full-day) for beginners or those wishing a quietish ride, and hacks for the more experienced. Fully trained guides are responsible for both types of ride. 2-day and 3-day trail rides are available too - please see our Booking and Prices page for details.

Riding begins at 10.00am or at 2.00pm and you can expect to be here for about 2 hours per session. A full day will mean lunch at one of the local pubs, where food is cheap and cheerful and where they are used to children. Do remember to bring warm clothing for the mountains. Your horses will be saddled and ready for you. We provide hats, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have one. Please note we have a weight limit of 14 stone.

Pony treks - half and full day

Pony trekking means a quiet ride on a quiet pony or horse. You will ride at your own comfort level, but there is a chance to branch off and trot or canter in the right places. Trekking is also suitable for younger children (8 years and over, younger children by arrangement) as well as adults.

Going on a hack - half day or full day

Hacking is for small groups of more experienced riders who want to move faster, with more opportunities to canter. Hacking is for people who ride regularly and are confident on a horse.

This year we are introducing a slightly longer ride - our hack 'extra' is more demanding, and you must have joined our normal hack before you book for the hack 'extra'.

Enjoying an evening ride

Join your friends after work and take advantage of the long summer evenings for an informal ride together, perhaps ending up in the bar of the Abbey Hotel.

Families might like to come out for some fun after school, or for a birthday party.

These rides can be arranged during May, June and July and will start at around 6.00 pm to suit your group. We shall be happy to take small groups or even as many as 18. We are offering special rates and if there are more than six of you, the organizer goes free.
